Ellen Conlin Hair and Beauty landed an award for Skills and Learning at the ninth annual Glasgow Business Awards, held on Thursday 20th April, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Compere and TV presenter Jackie Bird presented the organisation with the Caledonian Business School Award for Excellence in Skills and Learning. The salon beat of competition from Langside College and Glen Oaks Housing Association.
Last year, the salon was named Scottish Enterprise Glasgow Award for Best Performing Business (6 – 25 employees) at the Glasgow Business Awards 2005. Its award for skills and learning follows shortly after the salon’s in-house training scheme, known as HEAD training, was accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.
More than 150 companies throughout the West of Scotland entered the prestigious Business Awards, sponsored by Bank of Scotland Corporate, and hosted by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Scottish Enterprise Glasgow. Just nine companies were honoured at the ceremony.
The awards are a key event in the city’s business life, and allow the celebration and recognition of the wealth of achievement and business success in Glasgow.

ECH reached the semi-finals in this worldwide competition confirming their status as one of the world’s elite salons. The salon was initially nominated by hair giants Wella as a result of ECH performance in the Glasgow Business Awards.
The Global Business Awards criteria was based on business/hairdressing skills, People Management, Financial Success and Future Objectives.
On 26 January 2006 Ellen Conlin Hair & Beauty achieved full recognition from the Scottish Qualifications Authority for the Hair Education And Development (HEAD) Vocational Qualification, A Customised Training Award, and the first hairdressing business in Scotland to do so!
The HEAD VQ has opened many potential doors for the company in terms of training opportunities and the development of staff. Plans have been initiated to take full advantage of these exciting prospects.
A Training Academy and the development of numerous high quality staff for future expansion plans are 2 of our planned objectives using the HEAD VQ qualification.
The new Vocational Qualification has given us a constant stream of young people, who want to join our salon because of the high quality training available to them. They also receive training in business units as part of the course ultimately equipping them for their future in Hairdressing with ECH.
Having supported Glasgow Rugby for two years, we have decided to support the two great Glasgow football teams - Rangers and Celtic. We are sponsoring Alan Hutton of Rangers and Maciej (Magic) Zurawski of Celtic.

Ellen Conlin Hair & Beauty are now officially Glasgow's Best Performing Business having scooped the prize at a lavish ceremony in the Glasgow Hilton. This was a great achievement as no hairdressers have ever won this fabulous award.
The award was presented by Fred Macaulay and Ellen, Lesley and Ken received a beautiful cut glass crystal bowl to commemorate this outstanding achievement.
ECH are now truly recognised as a great business, as well as a great Hair and Beauty Salon.
